ADIC named market share leader for fourth consecutive year according to analyst firm report

Advanced Digital Information Corporation (NASDAQ: ADIC) has announced that
industry analyst firm GartnerInc. has named ADIC as the market share leader
in the largest tape automation segment for the fourth consecutive year in a
newly-released study of market trends.

ADIC's worldwide share of the small-form-factor half-inch drive automation
segment was 27.1% in 2004 based on total factory revenues, according to
Gartner Dataquest's Market Shares: Tape Automation Systems Worldwide, 2004.
According to the report, ADIC also leads the market in unit volumes with a
26.8% share in the small-form-factor segment and with a 20.5% share in the
overall tape automation market. The small-form-factor segment, which
includes the tape automation products that integrate LTO and DLT/SDLT
drives, accounted for 67.4% of the $2.1 billion total tape automation market
in 2004. Overall, tape automation market revenues grew 15.1% between 2003
and 2004; small-form-factor revenues grew 17% during the same period.

"ADIC is pleased to continue its leadership position in this key part of the
data protection market," commented Steve Mackey, ADIC director of product
marketing, EMEA. "The job of backing up, retaining, protecting, and
restoring data continues to become an even more important part of every IT
department's responsibility. It is also clear that the proven technology of
tape-based storage systems-whether used alone or in conjunction with a layer
of disk-based storage-will continue to play a central role in end-users'
data protection strategies.

"We believe that a core reason for ADIC's continued success has been our
approach of building sophisticated software-based management into our tape
and disk-to-tape platforms to make them easier for IT departments to deploy,
operate, maintain, and upgrade as their storage needs evolve. This approach
also allows us to provide innovative approaches to data protection problems
by leveraging emerging technologies and architectures."

Gartner Inc. tracks, analyses and forecasts market developments in various
areas of technology, and evaluates vendor activities and end-user trends.
