Unmatched Performance and Cost Effectiveness
The ONStor/3PAR combination demonstrates the fastest open NAS gateway
test score ever reported by the Standard Performance Evaluation Corp.
(SPEC), doubling the fastest performance reported for Network
Appliance's open storage NAS gateway. With 128,236 SPECsfs operations
per second from a cluster of four ONStor 2260 Bobcats, ONStor's NAS
Gateway delivers a three-to-one price/performance advantage as compared
to open NAS gateways from Network Appliance.* In addition, the InServ
Storage Server used to obtain this result was running 3PAR Thin
Provisioning software, which features unique dedicate-on-write
technology that enables 100% utilisation of dedicated raw capacity
versus 30% with traditional dedicate-on-allocation technologies.

Seamless and Linear Scalability
To demonstrate the linear scalability of the joint ONStor/3PAR solution,
a single Bobcat SPEC result of 31,784 SPECsfs operations per second was
also posted. The four-node configuration delivered four times the
performance of a single ONStor Bobcat 2260, proving that ONStor's n-way
fully active clustering architecture eliminates the performance-robbing
overhead associated with conventional clustering implementations.
World's First: Proven Online Service Level Optimisation
In additional benchmark results, ONStor/3PAR also completed the
industry's first ever benchmark to feature 3PAR Dynamic Optimisation.
3PAR Dynamic Optimisation enables users to achieve optimal data service
levels at the lowest possible cost, at all times and across all stages
of the disk-based data lifecycle. This non-disruptive optimisation
feature allows for the change of data service levels online and with
little or no impact to applications. A baseline result was first
established featuring a single Bobcat 2260 and a 3PAR InServ Storage
Server configured for RAID 1. This baseline test delivered 30,530
SPECsfs operations per second. A second result was obtained with the
same configuration while using 3PAR Dynamic Optimisation. With a single
command, each of 16 volumes was converted from RAID 1 to RAID 5 during
the course of the test.
This test yielded a near-equivalent result of 30,000 SPECsfs operations
per second, thus proving that online service level optimisation can be
achieved simply and without impacting performance.
