Pocket PC PDA with built in bar code scanner

The PHL-5000 series of PDAs from Opticon are a new addition to the growing number of Pocket PC based devices with built in bar code scanning capabilities in the market today. What makes them unique is the fact that they are not ruggedised and they are not prohibitively expensive.

Most scanning PDAs available today are made by manufacturers aiming at the logistics market and they have been constructed and priced accordingly.

Opticon believe that there is a large gap in the market for a range of products that do not pretend to be any more robust than a consumer PDA but offer the additional efficiencies that bar code scanning can bring.

Our research across Europe has shown that consumer PDAs are generally know to break if they are repeatedly misused, so users tend to take care of them. With ruggedised equipment, users can become complacent, leading to high failure rates and expensive repair bills says Richard Adlington. UK General Manager.

The PHL-5000 series currently comprises 3 models: Batch, 802.11b/Bluetooth and GPRS/GSM/Bluetooth. All feature Opticons own laser scan engine as well as an SD memory expansion slot. They are sold as a kit, including docking station and protective pouch.

Like all Opticon mobile devices, the PDA is sold with a full 24-month manufacturer warranty.
