BAKBONE AND EXABYTE TEAM TO BRING FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND ENTERPRISE-CLASS STORAGE DATA PROTECTION FEATURES TO MAC OS X ENVIRONMENTS

BakBone Software (TSX: BKB; PK: BKBO) and Exabyte Corp. (OTCBB: EXBT) today announced a partnership to cooperatively develop and deliver integrated storage data protection solutions to Apple customers through joint sales and marketing, product qualification and technical support. Designed to support Apple's Mac OS X operating system, including the newly released version, Tiger, the new range of "total" storage solutions will help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), data centres as well as education and digital media departments address the challenges of data protection in Mac OS X environments.

Building on both companies' commitment to supporting Apple's move into the enterprise, the collaboration has resulted in first-of-its-kind enterprise-class storage solutions for Mac OS X-unique configurations of high-performance storage software and hardware that are low-cost and rapidly deployable. In addition, the combined efforts of BakBone and Exabyte ideally complement Apple's Xserve, Xserve RAID and Xsan server and storage offerings. For the first time, Apple users can take advantage of enterprise-class features previously not available including application support such as Oracle 10g, features such as Policy Management, advanced disk-to-disk (D2D) capabilities and support for SAN infrastructures.

Tailored for highly data intensive applications, the NetVault data protection solution suite is fully certified across all Exabyte tape libraries and optimised to run on the Mac OS X platform. The strategic collaboration also extends to joint go-to-market activities, combining worldwide field sales and engineer training with sales and marketing support programs. The result will enable channel partners to generate customer leads and more effectively deliver the BakBone/Exabyte storage backup solutions to the Apple market.

"We are enthusiastic about our partnership with Exabyte, which is in direct response to customer demand for affordable, full, enterprise-class data protection solutions for Mac OS X," said Jim Johnson, president and CEO, BakBone Software. "We continue to work hard to identify strategic partner solutions that meet Apple users' enterprise storage needs. By combining our offerings with other complementary robust offerings, we can boost our customers' ability to gain greater performance and value from their storage infrastructures."

"As Apple continues to build momentum in the enterprise, end users are demanding enterprise storage backup solutions that combine outstanding performance and ease-of-use at an affordable price," said Tom Ward, president and CEO, Exabyte. "The sheer volume of storage behind Mac platforms is growing. We are confident that BakBone's enterprise-class NetVault and Exabyte's high-performance tape storage products together offer our respective Apple customers an exceptional choice for storage data protection and support solutions."
