Irish Retail Multiple Musgrave Chooses Intermec 750 Handheld Computers

Ireland's MusgraveSuperValu Centra (MSVC) has selected a handheld ordering, stock taking and price checking solution from Intermec Premier Solutions Partner IMEC and IT Providers for recommendation to its 620 SuperValu and Centra retail franchise customers.

MSVC is the retail franchise division of Cork-based Musgrave Group, built on providing its franchisees with products, logistics, finance, marketing and technology support services to help them to operate successfully in an extremely competitive retail market.

SuperValu and Centra retailers will invest 200 million Euros in store upgrades and new store development. Musgrave SuperValu-Centra will also open a new 35 million Euro warehousing and distribution operation at Kilcock, County Kildare, which will be fully operational in early 2005.

The new ordering solution uses the IT Providers' MobileData retail application on an Intermec 750 Color handheld device running Microsoft Pocket PC 2003. It captures barcode data to provide real time integrated views of key business information enabling faster, more accurate and informed ordering, price checking and stock taking. When fully implemented over 600 users, MSVC will be using the MobileData retail application on the Intermec 750 device throughout the independently owned SuperValu and Centra stores.

Tony Griffin, Head of Retail IT at MSVC stated, "MSVC recommends cost effective technologies to optimise in-store processes. Once MSVC select a solution it is then strongly recommended to all stores throughout Ireland, and it will be the default offering for all new stores, of which there were around 40 planned for 2004. It will also be recommended as part of a technology upgrade to all stores undergoing a re-vamp."

IT Providers, a software house based in Ennis, County Clare, develops and markets retail solutions to customers in Ireland, UK and mainland Europe. The MobileData solution gives retailers the ability to make more informed management decisions on the shop floor. The system provides real-time integrated views of key business data resulting in faster and more accurate ordering, price checking and stocktaking. IT Providers also supply its own touch-screen POS and enterprise management software for retailers.
