BAKBONE INTRODUCES ENTERPRISE-CLASS DATA PROTECTION FEATURES FOR MAC OS X ENVIRONMENTS

BakBone Software (TSX: BKB, OTCBB: BKBOF) announced today new storage backup solutions to help small- and medium-sized companies, data centre users and education and digital media departments address the challenges of data protection in Mac OS X environments, including those built around Xserve, Xserve RAID and Xsan.

Building on BakBones commitment to support Apples move into the enterprise, NetVault provides both server and client support for Mac, as well as Application Plugin Modules including Oracle 10g and MySQL. For those Mac users looking to make a successful transition to Mac OS X, NetVault is designed to address the new reality of multi-terabyte file storage, as well as help users implement and manage a robust enterprise-class data protection solution that is high performance, easily integrated and cost-effective to deploy.

Since BakBone announced general availability of NetVault for Mac OS X in September, were seeing Mac OS X gain significant traction in the enterprise marketplace, said Adrian Jones, senior vice president, worldwide OEMs and alliances group, BakBone Software. We are excited to introduce industry-first data protection features and functionality that perfectly meet Apple users enterprise storage needs. BakBones NetVault software provides IT administrators the enterprise-class reliability, scalability, price and performance their businesses need to remain competitive.

Supporting the broadest range of tape hardware devices in the industry, BakBone NetVault offers several unique backup configurations in various enterprise environments including Oracle 10g. With solutions for either managing a completely Mac-based shop or simply supporting Mac clients in a Unix or Windows network, major feature-enhancing additions to NetVault for Mac OS X environments include:

Virtual Tape Library Providing a structured backup to disk, NetVaults Virtual Tape Library (VTL) operates and functions just like a physical tape library. Storage administrators can take advantage of the high performance, low-cost attributes of Xserve RAID for rapid backups and restores in data intensive environments. With or without the aid of a physical tape library, an administrator can quickly allocate disk space to create a virtual tape library for backup. If needed, multiple network clients can be backed up simultaneously to a virtual tape library on Xserve RAID. Backups can then be migrated or duplicated to or from a virtual library to a physical tape library for off-site storage.

Policy Based Job Management Comprehensive job management tools help storage administrators create data protection policies that are used to efficiently define and manage backup strategies for all of your clients and critical applications. Policy Management tools allow job templates to be created and easily applied to a single client or an entire group of clients, simultaneously. Once defined, policy-based administration allows you to monitor, manage and edit a group of jobs as a single entity. This ultimately improves productivity and reduces the human error associated with manual job management.

User Level Access To ease storage administration, the User Level Access feature allows users to be defined with a specific set of privileges on an individual or group basis. For example, you may grant the ability to run reports and define backup jobs to your database administrators, while limiting all other users to restoring only their clients files. User Level Access is ideal for extending a subset of NetVaults features to other members of the IT staff as well as end users and helps free network administrators for more critical tasks.

Designed to meet users current and future data protection needs with advanced features for the backup and recovery of multiple terabytes of data, BakBone and Apple engineers have jointly tested and cross-certified Apples full range of networked storage solutions including Xserve, Xserve RAID and Xsan to provide seamless interoperability and performance for Apple customers.
