HHP, the worlds leading provider of image-based data collection systems, has won a contract with National Vehicle Distribution (NVD) for 80 Dolphin 9500 mobile computers. The handheld units have been supplied by one of HHPs Power Partners, Waveform Solutions.

NVD was founded in 1980, and has become the key strategic partner to vehicle distributors and dealers in Ireland. The company offers secure storage facilities in Baldonnell, Ringaskiddy and Rosslare, and provides high volume transport of vehicles all over the country. To facilitate this process, NVD needed to upgrade its data capture system. It therefore approached one of its regular suppliers, Dublin-based Waveform Solutions.

NVD was looking for a very rugged mobile data collection solution with a high degree of functionality, including signature and image capture capabilities. Waveform recommended HHPs new Dolphin 9500, a feature-rich model packed with technology. This includes an industry-leading triple wireless radio design; GSM/GPRS and Bluetooth capabilities; and HHPs Adaptus imaging system. The 9500 is made of magnesium alloy, and is the toughest product of its kind on the market.

NVD evaluated several units and then purchased 80 Dolphins for use in its trucks and in the vehicle storage compounds. They are used to track more than 150,000 vehicle movements. The 9500 is also used as a mobile phone within the trucks, and the integral camera is used to capture images that can be attached to damage reports.

Donal Scanell, NVDs IT Manager, says: "When we embarked on the process of replacing our old narrowband RF system, we put together a wish list of the functionality we wanted from the new handheld computers. Having looked at a wide range of mobile computers from various manufacturers, we were introduced to the HHP Dolphin 9500 by Waveform Solutions. I was particularly impressed with the rugged construction of the Dolphin, and the many extra features available. I am confident that we have selected the very best handheld computer on the market."
