Connecting Networks By Invisible Beams of Light

UK enterprise customers can connect their Local Area Networks (LANs) with beams of light using LightPointes FlightLite 100 product, which is now available through the Reading-based wireless company, WAN Partnership. WAN Partnership offers UK enterprise customers the latest optical wireless products based on free-space optics (FSO) technology that transmit data, voice or video communications between buildings in a secure and cost-effective way unmatched by traditional cabling or radio-based products, including 802.11 solutions.

LightPointes FlightLite 100 bridges buildings up to 500 metres apart and provides 100 megabits of full-duplex bandwidth. Optical Wireless is simple to install and saves money. For customers who currently lease copper access between buildings from their local telecommunications service provider, FlightLite 100 offers significantly higher bandwidth and a welcome end to recurring monthly charges. The FlightLite 100 also provides significantly higher bandwidth than 802.11 wireless bridge products, including 802.11a and 802.11g products.

Installation of FlightLite 100 is quick and economical. The solution incorporates Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), so no standard electrical power is required.
