Trident Infotec has added a new ultra-light thermal printer mechanism for portable applications, such as courier delivery terminals, inspection and tagging equipment or PDQ terminals. The unit weighs just 50 grams.

The Seiko LPT8235 from Trident is a thermal dot line printer measuring 72.0 x 38.0 x 15.6 mm, suitable for 58mm wide paper roll. With resolution of 6 dots per mm, and a maximum print width of 48mm, the mechanism is capable of printing a wide range of text and graphics for many applications. The maximum printing speed of 60mm per second allows equipment fitted with the LPT8235 to complete transactions quickly and maintain a high throughput. It is also robust, with pulse activation lifetime over 100 million activations, and abrasion lifetime over 50km. Head temperature sensing via a thermistor is also built-in, to guard against overheating.

A nominal 5V head logic supply is required, plus a head and motor drive supply between 6.0V and 8.0V. Overall power consumption is minimised by the low, 12mA, head logic current.
