SYBASE PARTNERS WITH INTERACTIVE IDEAS TO BRING LINUX TO SME MARKETPLACE

Sybase (UK) today announced a distributor agreement with Interactive Ideas Ltd., one of the UK's leading value-added software and peripheral distributors, to deliver Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) and SQL Anywhere Studio for Linux. Interactive Ideas, one of Britains largest suppliers of Linux software and primary distributors of RedHat and SuSE, will distribute the two products to its network of 600 corporate resellers.

Sybase chose to partner with Interactive Ideas because of the companys proven track record in the Linux space. Further to this, Interactive Ideas provided Sybase with a credible mechanism to sell its Linux solutions to the SME market.

Interactive Ideas will also be targeting companies that have downloaded the free edition of ASE Express for Linux, from the Sybase website. ASE Express is the first enterprise-class commercial database that can take a company from pilot phase to deployment, free of charge. In less than a month, more than 7,500 users have downloaded ASE Express on Linux worldwide and Interactive Ideas will be ensuring that companies taking advantage of the solution are kept up to date and fulfilled with services and upgrades.

Chris Howgego, Managing Director of Sybase UK, said, "We are delighted to partner with Interactive Ideas. Their reputation is excellent and their outreach into the Linux space is second to none. The solutions we will offer together will allow the SME market to take advantage of the many benefits that Linux can offer, including a simple migration path from Microsoft SQL Server to Linux."

According to Michael Trup, Managing Director, Interactive Ideas: "Were very pleased to be one of the select few distributors chosen to work with Sybase. The relationship underscores our position as one of the UKs primary suppliers of Linux solutions. It also means that we can provide our channel customers with the opportunity to offer a highly scalable, ultra secure and fast Sybase database solution that has previously only been available to the largest enterprises and all at SME pricing. Although our focus will be on Linux, well also provide Sybase products for Microsoft Windows operating systems, to those VARs who offer both platforms "

Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise is a powerful and scalable data management platform designed to support the demanding requirements of mission-critical online transaction processing (OLTP) and decision support applications.

SQL Anywhere Studio is the first mobile database for Linux with over eight million seats deployed worldwide. It delivers to the core needs of the Linux community, offering a small footprint that requires minimal system resource, very high performance at low cost, high scalability and virtually no maintenance. SQL Anywhere Studio is ideally suited to distributed, embedded and mobile requirements. Its bi-directional synchronisation is also proven and robust, integrating seamlessly with Sybase ASE, Oracle , Microsoft and other ODBC data sources.
