In data entry applications, it is often the case that certain fields of incoming forms must be scanned and their contents recognized. For example, a customers name, address, and customer number may have to be read from the form and turned into a bar code that gets printed on the form. This recognition can be done while the form is on the scanners transport (inline recognition) or it can be at some later time (offline recognition).
