STORAGETEK THE FIRST TO OFFER COMPLETE BACKUP MONITORING WITH AUTOMATION SOLUTIONS

Successful tape storage resources are now much easier to visualize, increasing utilization, minimizing risk and reducing administration time associated with backup operations. Through a single pane of glass, StorageTek (Storage Technology Corporation, NYSE:STK) now provides a clear view of end-to-end backup operations for customers using StorageTek tape libraries.

StorageTek, the leading provider of enterprise information lifecycle management, today announced its Backup Resource Monitor software solution for use with StorageTek L-Series and StreamLine series tape libraries.

Today, it is extremely time consuming and labor intensive for customers to monitor each step of the backup process and identify the root causes of backup failures. Unfortunately, most of the time users learn about unsuccessful backups are when they try to restore the data.

With Backup Resource Monitor software, customers have a centralized, comprehensive view into their entire backup infrastructure, from backup application to networking and tape automation components. Backup Resource Monitor software enables customers to monitor, analyze, and tune backup infrastructure as well as identify reasons for failure all the tools necessary to effectively manage their backup operations from end-to-end. StorageTek is the first and only provider today that offers such a rich backup monitoring application with its automation solutions.

Pat Edwards, vice president, sales, Alliance Technology, said, We conducted early product evaluations on Backup Resource Monitor and were able to verify its ease of installation and configuration. It shows great promise for reducing monitoring pains for enterprises.

Intelligent backup resource visualization and management are core requirements for todays data intensive enterprises shouldering rapid data growth with limited tape hardware resources and support staff, said Jon Benson, StorageTek vice president and general manager, Automated Tape Solutions. Customers using Backup Resource Monitor software with StorageTek tape libraries can manage and protect more data, more effectively, with fewer resources - key components to StorageTeks information lifecycle management strategy.

By offering this advanced intelligence across all StorageTek tape libraries, StorageTek is providing its customers with a flexible building block approach to enhanced backup operations via interchangeable hardware and software solutions.

Backup Resource Monitors building block approach enables customers to avoid being locked into all-in-one, proprietary single vendor solutions. This approach also provides monitoring and reporting capabilities for all installed StorageTek libraries rather than only the newest hardware platforms, said Edwards.

The combined value proposition of enhanced backup operations, intelligent hardware/media allocation and more efficient IT staffing is undeniable for today's enterprises, said Robert Abraham, president, Freeman Reports. With Backup Resource Monitor software, StorageTek is at once providing customers with greater data protection while extending the value and efficiency of their hardware and staffing resources.

Backup Resource Monitor supports seamless data protection and successful backup operations by identifying vulnerable backup clients and reporting on backup success rates and failure points across the backup infrastructure. BRM software enables administrators to see and monitor tape automation resources, storage networking components and backup applications. BRM is equipped with automatic data collection and historical trending capabilities.

StorageTeks Backup Resource Monitor software supports backup applications such as VERITAS NetBackup, LEGATOs NetWorker, and SAN switches such as Brocade and McDATA. BRM also supports the recently announced StorageTek Streamline SL8500.
