Scanner reads from mobile phone display

With the QK11 scanner, Denso a member of the Toyota Group offers an application for todays increasingly mobile world. Mobile phones are taking on a growing number of tasks in addition to phone calls or sending photos. QR codes (quick response codes) on mobile phone displays are replacing admission tickets. The QK11 scanner reads one- or two-dimensional codes from mobiles or PDAs, for example, and recognises the QR codes on an LC display or on paper regardless of the resolution, colours or reflections. A two-dimensional matrix and CCD camera system in the scanner enables it to recognise the square QR codes. Weighing a maximum of 370 grams and measuring 100 x 80 x 135 millimetres, transporting the scanner is unproblematic, allowing it to be used anywhere.

With this portable scanner, Denso the specialist for hand-held scanners and bar code terminals is opening up new possibilities for e-ticketing and e-payment. For example, the QK11 can be used for coupon promotions or online purchases. Someone using their mobile phone to book concert tickets, say, would receive a two-dimensional QR code sent to their phone, which also acts as the ticket. In the lobby of the concert hall, the customer is granted authorisation after holding his mobile phone over the QK11 scanner. It is no longer necessary to print out tickets booked online.
