SYMBOL TECHNOLOGIES APPOINTS ARTHUR O'DONNELL TO CHIEF QUALITY OFFICER

Symbol Technologies, Inc. (NYSE:SBL), The Enterprise Mobility Company, has announced that Arthur (Art) O'Donnell is assuming a new role as chief quality officer, effective immediately. O'Donnell will continue his responsibilities as senior vice president and general manager of the Global Services Division (formerly the Global Service and Support, GSS), and report into Symbol President and CEO, William Nuti.

In this new role, O'Donnell will assume leadership for all corporate quality functions and will drive the development and implementation of a cross-functional, customer-focused end-to-end quality system. This system will include global internal and external constituents including internal design, production, sales, services, administrative functions, suppliers and partners.

"Art has brought to Symbol a discipline for driving targeted quality initiatives that have provided a direct, measurable benefit to our customers," said Nuti. "His vast experience and stringent quality standards have brought significant changes to processes, metrics, and goals in all areas of Symbol's Global Services Division. This has profoundly improved our standards for customer success and it is a natural progression to take these standards of excellence and apply them to the rest of our enterprise quality system."

Services has over 10,000 daily interactions with customers. Therefore, it is crucial that the mission of the Quality Organisation is to develop a supply chain capable of providing defect-free products and services to customers on time, every time. The combination of these functions provides a direct link between quality initiatives and the customers they benefit. Melding these organisations under O'Donnell will drive a customer-centric focus to all activities while providing a mechanism for direct feedback and insight.
