NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) has unveiled two easy-to-install point-of-sale (POS) solutions offering affordability and long-term business value for small and midsize retailers including independent merchants, franchisees and restaurant operators, as well as hotels with food service operations.
NCR RealPOS 30 and NCR RealPOS 20 touchscreen terminals are NCR's new value-based POS solutions designed specifically for the needs of smaller retailers. They have been created to withstand the rigours of harsh store environments and to provide superior total cost of ownership.
"NCR is looking to expand aggressively its ability to meet the specific needs of smaller retailers", said Alberto Camuri, vice president of NCR's Retail Solutions Division for Europe, the Middle East and Africa. "Owners of independent or franchise retail operations are not only concerned about initial price, but also the long-term investment associated with installing and integrating peripherals."
The solutions will be offered through the UK's retail distributor and reseller network. EPoS Logic Ltd, a leading distributor to the retail sector, will be the first to distribute the new terminals in the UK under NCR's RealPartner channel programme - which provides training and marketing support for channel partners.
"NCR RealPOS 30 and NCR RealPOS 20 terminals provide affordable world-class technology to smaller retailers in the UK", said Tony Stokes, Managing Director of EPoS Logic Ltd. "We see these latest terminals, which support Microsoft Windows XP Embedded operating systems, as ideal platforms to run our latest thin-client browser-based applications." Investment Protection with Compact, Flexible Terminals The value-priced NCR RealPOS 30 and NCR RealPOS 20 provide the reliability and security of retail-hardened POS terminals with the performance and flexibility of industry-standard PC technology. Offering a compact, space-saving design, both the NCR RealPOS 30 and NCR RealPOS 20 can be configured as diskless thin-clients or full-function disk-based POS systems. They provide interfaces for serial- and USB-based retail peripherals, and RealPOS 30 also includes a powered printer port for improved cable management. With an open, standards-based design, the NCR RealPOS 30 supports the latest POS applications for Windows or Linux. The terminal will also support DOS applications, providing retailers an affordable option to migrate to a standards-based software platform without further hardware upgrades. It includes a powerful Intel processor and is built around industry-standard embedded components for a stable POS platform and extended lifecycle.
Retailers can choose from an extensive list of printers, keyboards and bar-code scanners, as well as a touchscreen operator interface or multiple keyboard-and-display combinations. The NCR RealPOS 20 supports the latest Windows or Linux-based touchscreen applications to help reduce training time, increase productivity and improve customer service. Manufactured under strict NCR standards, it features an all-in-one integrated design and is engineered for easy field upgrades and serviceability, with quick and simple access to key components.
