Metrologic Instruments is making its MS9535 VoyagerBT wireless Bluetooth enabled handheld scanner available throughout Europe. This is the latest addition to Metrologic's popular Voyager Series hand-held scanner line. The MS9535 is a wireless hand-held scanner and is among the first of its kind to employ the Bluetooth wireless technology platform. Designed for use in POS or light warehousing applications, VoyagerBT can communicate with its own base station or with other already-equipped Bluetooth devices such as mobile computers and mobile printers.

Commenting on the availability of the VoyagerBT, David Stevenson, retail product marketing and support manager, Metrologic Instruments GmbH said: "Providing customers with new, innovative products that offer value and return on investment is important to the success of Metrologic. The VoyagerBT will provide the freedom of mobility in applications where a standard cable-connected scanner limits use and functionality. Warehouse and retail checkout environments will benefit enormously from the implementation of Bluetooth wireless technology.

John Bonanno, Metrologics product manager for hand held devices says that this is an attractive product for the channel because it is plug and play due to the easy setup of the unit. You simply connect the power and communications cable and the unit syncs automatically and is ready to scan. Bluetooth connectivity makes it compatible with other Bluetooth wireless devices including portable printers, laptops and PDAs. The VoyagerBT uses serial port profile and is able to be operated as a client allowing it to be discovered by other Bluetooth devices. Also because of the worldwide acceptance of Bluetooth, the price has dropped significantly allowing the company to offer a low-cost wireless solution.
