ONStor Celebrates Milestone 100th Customer Installation of Enterprise-class NAS Gateways
08 February 2006

ONStor Inc., the leader in enterprise NAS Gateway solutions, have announced that it has celebrated the win of its 100th customer, Shopzilla Inc., completing a year of company growth and recognition since the January 2005 launch of its Bobcat scalable NAS Gateway. ONStor was recently selected over other vendors for providing the performance, scalability and open storage support to meet the data consolidation, content delivery and online backup demands of Shopzilla.

"As the most powerful and easiest-to-use shopping search site on the Web, Shopzilla takes pride in meeting the needs of our users and the thousands of merchants who depend on us," said Burzin Engineer, director of infrastructure services at Shopzilla. "ONStor NAS Gateways are a critical component of the underlying storage infrastructure that supports the performance and reliability of the site."

In addition to its milestone 100th installation, ONStor recently received awards for “Best Product” in the NAS Market and “Product of the Year” from Enterprise Systems, following honours earlier in the year from CRN, eWeek and InfoWorld magazines and was recently ranked among the top three NAS Gateway vendors by TheInfoPro, an independent research network and leading supplier of market intelligence for the Information Technology industry.

ONStor’s scalable, open approach that puts an end to the traditional limitations of NAS technology was similarly praised by technology analysts and integrators in 2005. Value-added resellers praised the “freedom of choice” enabled by the Bobcat series: freedom to leverage existing storage resources, freedom to enable on-demand resource provisioning, freedom to incorporate divergent infrastructures resulting from business acquisitions, and freedom to integrate disk storage from any vendor.

“Customers who want to use NAS for enterprise-wide, general purpose file-sharing services have very few options today. With ONStor’s Bobcat, they have an approach that addresses their needs in an intelligent and cost-effective way,” said Greg Schulz, founder and senior analyst of The StorageIO Group. “By leveraging existing storage, and scaling as requirements demand, it is not surprising that ONStor continues to build momentum in the NAS Gateway space.”

“On behalf of all of us at ONStor, we thank Shopzilla for being the icing on our cake and allowing us to finish the year on an incredibly high note,” said ONStor CEO Bob Miller. “Shopzilla joins our other 99 users in proving that enterprise NAS is key to running a high-throughput enterprise, relegating legacy NAS products to the past.”

ONStor's Bobcat Series of easy-to-deploy and simple-to-manage NAS Gateways, in combination with industry standard storage arrays, deliver scalable, shared storage to Windows, UNIX and Linux clients and servers. Because ONStor NAS Gateways are interoperable with the industry's broadest range of storage arrays, customers are free to choose the storage that best fits their business needs. Built on a 64-bit symmetric multiprocessing pipelined architecture that employs high-speed network processors more commonly found in network infrastructure products, the ONStor Bobcat delivers the industry’s highest performance open NAS gateways with up to three times the performance of NetApp products and enterprise-class scalability to 40 Petabytes of capacity and more than 10,000 users.
