16 April 2007

VoIP and landline telephony, DSL modem, WLAN router: All in one with the new AVM FRITZ!Box

  • Internet and landline telephony using existing telephones
  • Integrated DSL modem also supports the new and even faster ADSL 2+
  • WLAN router with 4 LAN ports for PC and other network-compatible devices
  • Networking of printer and hard disk

Would you like to choose between landline and Internet when making a phone call? And simply use the telephones you already have? Do you want to quickly create a secure wireless network for multiple PCs and a shared DSL connection? Have all networked PCs use the same printer or hard disk? You can do all this and much more besides with the new international version of the FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7140.

Available immediately for € 160 plus VAT. The FRITZ!Box produces superb voice quality for VoIP, and you don’t even have to turn on your computer to call via Internet. The DSL modem integrated in FRITZ!Box is also equipped for high-speed ADSL 2+, making speeds of up to 16 Mbps possible. The FRITZ!Box offers a large number of connection options, including four LAN ports for computers or other network-compatible devices.

In addition, you can use a USB host connection for the network to share a printer or hard disk. What’s the perfect accessory for the FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7140: The FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick. It lets you set up a quick and secure WLAN connection, with no configuration required.

Internet telephony – FRITZ!Box makes it nice and easy

The FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7140 has two ports for analogue telephones, letting you choose between Internet and landline calls. You don’t even have to turn on your computer to make calls using the Internet. FRITZ!Box uses Traffic Shaping technology, which guarantees optimum data and speech transfer and thus superb voice quality. The phone system offers a wide range of functions including call brokering, call waiting, call forwarding, baby phone and three-party conference call. The FRITZ!Box can manage up to 10 Internet phone numbers – even from different providers. Dialling rules let you specify whether certain dialling codes are always to be dialled using the landline or using Internet telephony.

The secure and fast way to wireless Internet

Encryption is preconfigured in the FRITZ!Box on delivery, so that right from the start you can count on a secure WLAN connection. Each device has an individual, unique key on the underside of the box. Compliance with the latest WLAN security standards (WPA and WPA2) also guarantees a maximum of security. If the receiver only uses the old WEP standard, you can select this type of encryption with the FRITZ!Box. Alongside the conventional WiFi standards 802.11g and b, the FRITZ!Box also uses the 802.11g++ turbo mode to boost net throughput by around a third. The FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick makes wireless surfing even easier! You can transfer all configuration and security settings automatically to the FRITZ!WLAN USB Stick and then on to your computer. This is how AVM “Stick & Surf” technology gets you a secure WLAN connection in a matter of seconds, without complications.

Networking of printer and hard disk

The USB host port is used to introduce new applications into the network. Simply connect memory stick, printer or hard disk to the FRITZ!Box for all computers in the network to use them. The computers linked to the FRITZ!Box are also linked to each other. The user doesn’t need to carry out any network configuration, and even IP addresses are assigned automatically if desired.

The new international premium model FRITZ!Box Fon WLAN 7140 is on sale starting now. The suggested retail price is €160 plus applicable VAT. AVM offers a five-year guarantee. The AVM service also encompasses free e-mail support and firmware updates.
