Key event hosted by RFID analysts - providing impartial insight into RFID progress and opportunities
June 14, 2010

RFID grew regardless of the recession. The biggest spenders have been and still are governments, who are able to implement large schemes such as animal tagging, transit ticketing, people identification etc where the paybacks are typically greater efficiency and improved safety. Rapid ROI is less of a concern for them. Well managed suppliers to these sectors are profitable. Conversely, industrial adoption of RFID is moving from a high number of small niche use cases to much larger applications that are beginning to include tens and even hundreds of millions of tags per customer. The light at the end of the tunnel for many suppliers pursuing non government projects is approaching. RFID Europe, hosted by IDTechEx, is the only event to bring you a digested impartial view of the entire RFID industry, based on the independent research that has been conducted by IDTechEx on the topic for the last ten years.

The event covers the high growth areas, such as those in apparel, who find sales increases of about 20% when tagging stock because they have much better stock visibility. Retailers that supply their own apparel such as American Apparel came first. This year others that own stores as well as sell to other generic stores are set to roll out. Over the last year several wireless sensor network standards have been ratified and with new developments in energy harvesting technologies which negate the need for a battery in wireless sensors can now last for six decades. Tens of millions of wireless sensors have been deployed in the form of smart meters and building/home automation is on the rapid rise, shortly overtaking the market for item tracking using active RFID. The first printed RFID tags are now commercially available - which work with existing HF readers and cost less than 5 cents for the complete tag. Watch healthcare, oil and gas and transit in particular.

Above all, no one can ignore the work going on in East Asia, particularly China. Not only is the government there pursuing RFID with unmatched vigor compared to any other country, but companies are equally as keen. The RFID manufacturing capability installed and currently being installed in China and Korea is remarkable. This is creating the perfect conditions in China for it to become the largest RFID market by far. That is why IDTechEx is holding its Asian version of the event in Hong Kong (October 13-14 www.IDTechEx.com/HongKong) - where all the action is; but for those that cannot make it there many speakers from the region will be coming to RFID Europe in the UK.

All of these topics and many more are covered at the tenth annual IDTechEx RFID Europe event, to be held in Cambridge, UK on September 28-29 (www.IDTechEx.com/RFIDEurope). IDTechEx carefully design the program content to provide you with unrivalled insight into the state of the industry. Those wishing to exploit routes to profitability, find where the true demand is and meet customers and investors must attend. Backed up by free IDTechEx research the complete event package is your yearly RFID benchmark.
