RFID in Europe: Major Players Will Recommend on RFID Regulations and Standards
13 September 2006

European major players from industry have joined to recommend proper actions on RFID standards and regulations to the European Commission.

Europe is first-rate player in the global RFID market. However, the patchwork of European RFID standards and radio regulations is still a challenge. In order to overcome these obstacles, vendors and users from Europe have agreed to elaborate detailed proposals for proper actions on RFID standards and regulations issues to the European Commission. Within the initiative CE RFID, industry experts will meet at three workshops:

- on RFID radio regulations (September 20, 2006 in Weilburg/Germany),
- on RFID data and network standards (November 17, 2006 in Munich/Germany)
and
- on RFID application standards (January 19, 2007 in Graz/Austria).

They will analyse the current situation and will recommend activities which foster the harmonisation of RFID frequencies as well as the standardisation of communication and data standards in Europe. "This is a unique opportunity for RFID vendors and users to contribute to the on-going discussion on RFID in Europe", says Eldor Walk, technical director of FEIG Electronic, who is responsible for the workshop series on radio regulations and standardisation in CE RFID.

The workshops are open to participation from industry, and the workshop organisers FEIG Electronic, Tyco/ADT, EADS and RF-iT results welcome additional contributors.

More details can be found on www.rfid-in-action.eu.
