Hardware interoperability programme unveiled at EPCglobal European conference
11 September 2006

Six companies receive certification marks for 11 products

EPCglobal Inc, the not-for-profit standards organisation dedicated to driving global adoption of the Electronic Product Code (EPC) for supply chain excellence, today announced the first companies to earn an EPCglobal Inc hardware interoperability mark, certifying that EPC/RFID devices such as tags, readers and printers/encoders will interoperate with other certified devices.

The testing is being conducted by MET Laboratories in Baltimore, Maryland. Companies whose products pass the test receive a hardware interoperability mark. The mark will not be transferable to other products made by the same manufacturer.

The interoperability programme is part of EPCglobal's hardware certification programme, which
verifies that EPC hardware products comply with EPCglobal standards. The EPCglobal hardware interoperability testing demonstrates the ability of different tags to work with different readers or printer/encoders.

"The EPCglobal community developed this programme to provide a neutral and authoritative source for testing hardware products and providing information regarding certified products, and the vendors who manufacture them," said Chris Adcock, president of EPCglobal Inc.
"The purpose of this programme is to enable end users to be confident that the certified hardware products which they implement, will work with each other in predictable ways as defined by EPCglobal standards, such as the UHF Gen2 Air Interface Protocol Standard."
