TAGSYS ANNOUNCES NEW RFID infrastructure for libraries
14 June 2007

New Tags, Security System and Reader Station Antenna Offer Higher Performance and Increased Security for Better Circulation Management

TAGSYS, a global leader in item-level RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) infrastructure, has announced a more secure, reliable and higher-performing standards-based RFID system for libraries.  The system includes the new Folio 370L Tag Family, the L-SP2+ pedestal for upgraded security and the LSA-4, a new, high-performance, mixed-media antenna.  Combined with TAGSYS’ family of RFID readers, the innovative hand-held WiFi inventory reader and e-connectware RFID management software, libraries now have an end-to-end RFID infrastructure solution to more efficiently and effectively manage their inventory of books, CDs and DVDs.

“TAGSYS’ strategy in creating an integrated, standards-based RFID infrastructure lowers risk, speeds deployment and generates a faster ROI for the library community,” said John Jordon, president of worldwide field operations for TAGSYS.  “These new products are the result of TAGSYS’ cross-industry expertise in the reliable, accurate and secure tracking and tracing of high-value goods.”

“We are very pleased with TAGSYS’ commitment to the libraries as exemplified by these newest product developments,” said Shai Robkin, president and CEO of Integrated Technology Group, a TAGSYS partner in the library market since 2002.  “By enabling this new level of performance, we can expect an increase in new deployments and a reinforcement in our customer loyalty.”

“TAGSYS’ new antenna design supports our specifications,” said Bernd Ingwersen, head of computerization and organization of the Hamburg Public Libraries.  “The new LSA-4 antenna anticipates the significant role digital media are having in public libraries.  We have been using LSA-4s since October 2006 and they have exceeded our read rates.”

Purpose-Built for Libraries

TAGSYS’ library RFID infrastructure is purpose-built to address the requirements and standards around read range, data models, reliability and security.

New Tag Family - The new ISO 15693-compliant Folio 370L Tag Family is comprised of square (47mm x 47mm), rectangular (54mm x 86mm) and circular (35mm diameter) form factors.  The tags incorporate NXP’s new silicon, ICODE SLI-L, which features password-protected EAS capability, a 256bit user memory block to meet the emerging NISO data model and up to 20% better read performance.

Enhanced Security Pedestals – TAGSYS’ L-SP2+ security system incorporates support for both the EAS and AFI security modes, giving libraries the option to utilize either mode based on their requirements, increased read range that can now support aisle widths of up to 140 centimeters and the industry’s first “read ID” capability with an ISO-compliant tag.  Libraries now will have the ability not only to detect an item that has not been properly checked out, but to know which item it is.

New Reader Antenna – The new LSA-4 mixed-media antenna has been specially designed to address the increasing percentage of CDs and DVDs in libraries’ inventory.  .  With this new antenna, more items can be processed at the circulation desk or self checkout stations without staff intervention.

Together these components enable TAGSYS’ partners to deliver a more reliable, accurate and secure RFID solution that addresses the growing demands on libraries.
