Xerox expands global business process outsourcing capability
December 15, 2008

Xerox has opened an enlarged Northern European Delivery Centre, marking the next step in a continued expansion programme for its business process services (BPS).

The BPS centre, located in Gloucester, UK has moved to larger premises to cope with both demand and the ongoing trend toward document digitisation and management. Processing over 1.2 million documents every week, the centre underlines Xerox’s commitment to delivering robust and secure document management services.

“We offer real cost benefits, process simplification and flexibility for complex document-intensive tasks," said Peter Romaine, director and general manager of Xerox Global Services, UK. "In the current economic climate Xerox's services are resonating with customers as they continually need to drive productivity and cost efficiency.  Our global BPS centres allow us to scale very quickly.  We’re processing and managing millions of documents every day for some of the world’s biggest companies.”

The Northern European BPS Centre delivers a diverse but comprehensive range of document management services.  One of the more unusual requests has been the scanning of a 27 metre-long drawing of a well-known football manager’s yacht. The centre acts as a document processing hub for global customers, with scanning and imaging services that convert a wide range of softcopy and hardcopy documents, from invoices to blueprints, into searchable electronic content and manageable records for greater efficiency and security.

Those customers include organisations like the French telecommunications company Bouygues Telecom and the UK’s Co-operative Financial Services for which Xerox scans, identifies, categorises and indexes 10,000 insurance and retail banking correspondence every day.   Once documents are digitised at any of the scanning and imaging operations, Xerox Global Services help customers to integrate those documents into their existing enterprise business processes, or help them build new records management systems.

Xerox BPS centres:

Support critical business processes (e.g. accounts payable, receivables, store card and credit card application processing)
Simplify processes and reduce business process costs through use of technology or off shore processing
Provide improved security through risk management and disaster recovery procedures (e.g. multiple copies of business critical documents stored in different data centres)
Improve speed and access to documents
Increase productivity from accelerated workflow management by loading images and metadata directly into clients work flow and document management systems.

“Xerox has developed a strong global delivery capability. The company has deployed document management centres in Europe, the US, and Asia to provide hosted content services for eDiscovery, capture, hosting and workflow, with complete offerings for invoice processing, expense management and account opening,” wrote Forrester Research, Inc., in their April 2008 report, “Market Overview: Document Processing Services”.  [1]

The Northern European BPS Delivery Centre will focus on BPS operations for organisations in the UK, the Netherlands and Nordic region but also serves a wide range of global customers, including government departments, some of the world’s biggest financial services firms - including online banks - as well as IT organisations, pharmaceutical and airline companies, hotel chains and consulting firms.

The new centre also complements recent openings of BPS delivery centres in Canada and Italy.  Xerox already has BPS centres in Brazil, France, Germany, the Nordics, Romania, Spain, Singapore and the USA.
