Casio Presents The New IT-800 Hand-Held Terminal
October 08, 2009

The new IT-800 PDA weighs just less than 350 grammes and is equipped with a 9.4 cm (3.7 inch) VGA screen which boasts about ten times more shock resistance than the current equivalent model available in the market today.

This is demonstrated by dropping a 0.5 kg steel ball onto the screen. Would your existing PDA survive such an impact?  The shock resistance of the screen has been improved by incorporating a transparent, shock-absorbing material between the LCD and the touch panel.

By utilising Casio’s own Blanview® LCD screen, which offers an approximately 30% better LCD light transmission factor, with about half the backlight power consumption, the IT-800 delivers power-saving performance with superior visibility both indoors and outdoors.

The IT-800 offers 3G wireless WAN (HSDPA) capability as a standard feature, providing a high-speed data connection (with download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps), as well as GSM voice communication. This not only makes it easy to access and download information from a remote office server, but also enables information to be shared rapidly with back office systems. Such information can include scanned 2D symbologies, images captured with the PDA’s colour digital camera, or GPS location information.

Developed using ISO 13407 human-centred design processes, the new PDA is easy to hold and operate. It is IP54-rated, dust/splash proof and can withstand being dropped onto concrete from a height of 1.5 metres. It operates at temperatures down to –20 ºC and is suitable for year-round outdoor use, even on hot, cold, and rainy days, very typical in our country!

In a major innovation, the IT-800 PDA comes with ample security features such as a login verification system that uses contactless smart card technology and automatic erasing of PDA data if the device has not been operated for a certain period of time. This is a PDA that can be trusted to handle important corporate data away from the office. The built-in reader can accept ISO14443 Type A (Mifare®) / ISO14443 Type B / FeliCa® cards.

The new IT-800 series includes eight new models which can be used in a wide variety of commercial applications, wherever real time data communication is required, indoors or out. In addition to mobile sales applications, this PDA series is ideal for direct store delivery, logistics, warehouse applications, parking enforcement, meter reading, postal, checking retail inventories and preparing deliveries, as well as for issuing railway and bus tickets (when combined with a Bluetooth printer).

In addition to the IT-800, Casio presents the leading DT-X30 hand-held terminal with its high IP67 rating.  This means total protection against dust ingress and total immersion in water. The drop test specification has also been upgraded to 1.8 metres (50 times to concrete), making it one of the most rugged hand held terminals available to date.

And the ultra-light DT-X7 hand-held scanner from CASIO with CMOS imager, enabling it to read one and two-dimensional ident codes such as DataMatrix or QR Code quickly and securely. The high-performance laser scanner of the DT-X7 recognises all current 1D codes commonly in use today. It operates at a resolution of 0.15 to 0.25 mm and can read at distances of 40 to 410 mm. The speedy CMOS imager is perfectly suited to all complex codes such as DataMatrix, Maxicode and QR Code.
