VIDEO: IT Reseller reviews the new Honeywell Dolphin 9900 mobile computer
July 08, 2008
Fast, accurate data capture, coupled with reliable communication and location-based technologies have become ever more critical in the modern retail, logistics, healthcare or warehouse environment. Therefore, the need to source a mobile device that offers such breadth of functionality has never been more critical.
Honeywell Imaging & Mobility are upping their game by ensuring their mobile devices really are cutting edge in terms of scope of technology and ease of use. Take Honeywell’s brand new Dolphin 9900 mobile computer, for example. This device delivers the very latest data capture, wireless communication capabilities, whilst also being highly ergonomic for maximum user comfort during long shifts.
But while it may feel comfortable and light, this device is made of tough stuff. Internally, it has a built-in magnesium-alloy roll cage and an environmentally sealed housing. And its components are all highly wear-resistant. It’s features like these that ensure the device is able to deliver optimum reliability in the most demanding of mobile environments. The Dolphin 9900 is also designed to be highly intuitive for the mobile worker, ensuring maximum user reliability and productivity. With integrated voice & data communication, the device ensures your business stays connected with employees, supply chain partners and customers alike.
The Dolphin 9900 does everything; from scanning linear or 2D barcodes on a package for delivery confirmation, to tracking inventory and electronically capturing a signature for proof of receipt. And the device’s built-in Adaptus Imaging Technology 5.0 provides workers with all the functionality needed to capture data or take pictures quickly and efficiently. Additionally, with built-in GPS technology, the user can benefit from turn-by-turn navigation, driver route optimisation and other location-based applications. And the device’s Wireless Full Area Networking capability means users have fully integrated multi-mode wireless technology at their fingertips; including GSM/EGPRS and 802.11bg for real-time data exchange and voice communications on-site or off. The Dolphin 9900 also features Bluetooth for efficient wireless connection to peripheral devices.
This new offering from Honeywell offers all the flexibility and mobility of the PDA, but with the added benefits associated with a highly ruggedised yet light and comfortable terminal. Additionally, it delivers an impressive battery performance of ten hours or more – virtually eliminating the need to replace batteries during most work shifts – therefore enhancing productivity. Another point worth mentioning is that users of the device’s predecessor – the 9500 – can easily migrate to the next-generation 9900 while retaining much of their legacy infrastructure; such as accessories, batteries and device peripherals. This can naturally achieve significant cost-saving benefits for the user. Additionally, user interaction with the Dolphin 9900 is nearly identical to that of the 9500; so the requirement for further user training is massively reduced, or even completely eliminated. The device is powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile 6, with an Intel PXA270 624 MHz processor with 256 Megabytes of RAM and 1 Gigabyte of Flash memory for super fast performance. In addition, the Dolphin 9900’s specifications include an IP64 rating for drops of up to 5 feet direct to concrete.
Rugged, ergonomic and feature-rich, the Dolphin 9900 is a single comprehensive mobile solution that eliminates the need for deploying multiple devices to the field – thereby reducing cost, easing management, and simplifying your IT structure. It’s certainly a convincing choice for all your data capture, navigation and communication requirements.
