Mayrise mobile keeps streets in top condition
June 09, 2008

Bournemouth Borough Council has implemented a state-of-the-art highways mobile information system from Mayrise Systems.

Comprising centralised software for the management of highways maintenance and a mobile solution for live reporting highways defects, the integrated systems is being used to improve the highways maintenance and inspection programmes throughout the popular seaside destination.

MAYRISE Highways was introduced by Bournemouth Council after the Street Cleansing and Highways Maintenance Teams were merged to form the Street Services unit. “Prior to the introduction of MAYRISE we were operating two different electronic data management systems,” said Stuart Best, Street Services Area Manager. “MAYRISE gave us a single platform solution across all operating areas of the newly formed unit.”

MAYRISE Highways is designed to simplify the management of Local Authority highways maintenance programmes or third party contracts. The system can be used to generate schedules for routine inspections, record defects and manage provision of remedial works.

“MAYRISE is used extensively by our team of Highways Inspectors,” continued Best. “System generated inspection routes are downloaded onto our HP iPAQ hand held devices each morning, then, as the Inspectors carry out their duties in the field these devices are used to record the position and characteristics of defects via the easy to use series of drop down menu options and tick boxes. The field-collected information is then uploaded to the office based ‘host’ system and remedial work orders are automatically generated.”

Bournemouth Borough Council, as the Local Highway Authority, has a statutory responsibility to maintain approximately 500 km of adopted highway in the south coast resort. Its key duties include maintenance of the highway network infrastructure, administration of highway legislation, achievement of economic, safety, environmental and social objectives and the provision of emergency response services.

“The MAYRISE system also provides a robust audit trail, from defect conception to defect rectification, essential in the provision of any defence to third party liability claims made against the Authority,” concluded Stuart Best.

Mayrise Systems is a leading supplier of e-government integrated systems for managing local authority services including waste management, grounds maintenance, street lighting, street works and highways.  The company also specialises in system integration; serving live service data to contact centres and web applications using a standard XML interface.
