Unitech, the third largest worldwide manufacturer of rugged PDAs, has launched the PA600, a rugged mobile computer designed for mobile workers that need a powerful device that is small enough to fit into a shirt pocket.

Designed for retail, healthcare, hospitality and field service applications, the PA600 weighs just 290 grams making it one of the lightest devices on the market.  Its pricing is competitive too – few other devices offer as much relevant functionality as the PA600, and most cannot compete on price.

For mobile applications the PA600 is one of the few rugged PDAs to offer a choice of both Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows CE 5.0 enabling a business to choose the most suitable operating system for integration with its existing systems.  The PA600 can run Unitech’s MCL Collection, which makes application development easy.

The ergonomics of this new device have been built with the user in mind.  Users will find that it fits naturally into the hand and works with them, not against them.  It has a fully integrated scanner, an easy to use keyboard that allows single handed use, a colour screen for instant visibility, and tri-fold audible, visible and vibration good read confirmations to improve productivity.

Cost of ownership is reduced with the PA600, as it is highly rugged.  It has undergone extensive testing to ensure it is able to withstand the rigours of every day professional and industrial use, where consumer grade PDAs would fail.  These include multiple drop tests, repetitive key pressing and dust and moisture ingress tests.  The result is a unit that is guaranteed to withstand multiple 1.2m drops and has an IP54 rating.

Connectivity is provided by integrated Bluetooth only or combined with 802.11b/g WLAN radios, which are the standard options on both the Windows CE 5.0 and Windows Mobile 5.0 models.  The CE 5.0 model also has the option of GPRS and the Windows Mobile 5.0 model also supports VOIP.  RFID can be provided via the SD slot on both models, which can also be used for additional memory.

Raymond Wolfert, Sales & Marketing Manager, comments “We have created the compact PA600 to strike the perfect balance between size, functionality and price, so customers are paying for a device that offers everything they need, and nothing they don’t.  It has enough power from a single charge to work for a full shift, and its ergonomic design ensures all day comfort to match.   And, with MCL, users can quickly develop their own applications to take advantage of the broad connectivity options.  There has been a lot of interest in the PA600 from international companies, and we will soon be announcing the first of many large scale deployments of this new device.”
