New modular system for centralized production
September 28, 2009

Evolis, the European leader in plastic card personalization, announces the availability of the new Quantum, a modular printing and encoding system for high-volume and dual-sided card personalization.

The new Evolis Quantum brings to the market the ease of use of a desktop printer matched to the power of industrial machines for centralized personalization. This system is designed to be fully flexible and personalized on-site, directly by the user according to the need of the moment. Quantum is the ideal system for any organization that needs to personalize cards in large quantities, from card manufacturers to service bureaus or even banks and universities. Quantum fits a wide array of market applications: ID & membership cards, loyalty cards, transportation passes, student cards, event passes, payment cards, calling and SIM cards, and much more.

Extremely versatile and innovative

Quantum meets the requirements of multiple and scalable personalization needs thanks to features that can be easily adjusted:

·         Monochrome & color printing of pictures, texts and barcodes,
·         Single and dual sided personalization,
·         Multiple encoding (mag, smart contact and contactless),
·         Multi-connectivity (USB & Ethernet ports offered as standard).

The machine is divided into separate modules. This  speeds up the personalization since the printing and encoding are performed at the same time. The system includes a market-proven dual-sided printing module that releases more than 1,000 cards per hour in monochrome full card, and 150 cards (full card, single side) in color.

The machine is shipped standard with a unique detachable and reversible encoding unit, that combines magnetic, smart contact and contactless encoders. This exclusive feature gives the ability to print and encode the same side of the card without having to flip it over. The separate encoding unit can be upgraded with almost any smart chip encoder that simply needs to be connected to  a dedicated electronic panel.

Quantum also comes with two brand new high capacity hoppers of 500 cards each. These hoppers are detachable and can indistinctively be used either as a feeding device or to collect personalized cards.

Reliable and easy to use

With Quantum, reliability is a clear benefit. Components have been selected to support high-volume batches. Manual adjustments are performed to every machine in order to ensure premium quality printing and encoding. The cleaning system ensures perfect cleanliness of both sides of the cards and guarantees a high-quality output and a long print head life.

Quantum is fully user-oriented. All mechanical and electronic concepts have been studied to ease and speed daily use and maintenance tasks. Hoppers can be put in place and removed easily. User friendly and wide access systems make it easy to loading cards & ribbons. A LCD screen provides notification of the remaining cards before cleaning is required, and warns when the hoppers are almost full.

Thanks to a minimum upfront investment and a highly competitive cost per card, Quantum turns out to be the best alternative to high-volume centralized systems to produce cards in large runs.
