With a need to update their existing system for producing driving licences and dealing with vehicle registration, Dubai Police department embraced the opportunity to bring in leading edge technology that would speed up the production process and provide much-needed enhanced security features. Not only did they need a solution that would fufill their security needs, but one that would also meet an estimated demand of 1 million cards in the first year.

A spokesperson from Dubai Police said, 'Dubai police is committed to becoming recognized leaders in technology implementation in the region. Electronic architecture for service delivery is becoming a key tenet of public security and safety in today's fast-paced world. We constantly evaluate new technology to keep pace with global developments and provide efficient and secure services. Solution

EastNets introduced Bitaqat-e, which provides a highly secure, fully parameterized card management and issuing system for Dubai Police across fifty stations in the region. The system has the capability to store citizen information including name, date of birth, address and a compressed photographic or biometric image of the bearer.

Zebra Card Printers are easy to use and can produce a dual sided colour card in seconds containing a customized hologram for added security. The introduction of the printers helped the department to deal effectively and efficiently with the initial high demand. The new cards mean that relevant authorities can now quickly and easily access information through a simple hand held reader or scanning device.

Benefits

The end result is a complete end to end solution that has utilized leading technology that has facilitated the automation of certain processes, as well as reducing both the time and costs associated with the production of driving licenses.
