BÖWE BELL + HOWELL certifies Kofax VRS 4.2 image enhancement technology
 October 02, 2008

BÖWE BELL + HOWELL has certified the latest version of Kofax's VirtualReScan (VRS) technology for its line of reliable and easy-to-use production scanners after an intense round of testing.

VRS 4.2 builds on many of VRS 4.1's image enhancement and efficiency-boosting features that help users get picture-perfect digital images while reducing the need for manual intervention in the scanning process.

BBH worked closely with Kofax to ensure that the Professional and Basic versions of VRS 4.2 are fully compatible with its high-volume Spectrum XF Series, low-volume Truper Series and Sidekick, its desktop scanning series.

The Spectrum XF Series, which scans at 140 pages per minute, will soon come bundled with VRS 4.2 Professional. Onboard hardware VRS on the Spectrum XF Series allows users to scan in color just as efficiently as scanning in bitonal or grayscale. Onboard VRS will help BBH customers use VRS 4.2 Professional's image enhancement and interactive problem resolution functionality without sacrificing scanning speed.

The Truper 3200 low-volume production scanner also will come packaged with VRS 4.2 Professional. The rotary-only Truper 3600 will continue to offer customers an option to buy their scanner packaged with either VRS 4.2 Basic or Professional technology.

Additionally, the Sidekick Series of desktop scanners that presently come packaged with VRS 4.1 Basic will soon come bundled with VRS 4.2 Professional - at no extra cost to the customer. This advanced functionality, which will be available on both Sidekick 1200 and Sidekick 1400u, will give this desktop imaging solution for small offices and departments an added boost in productivity.

VRS Builds on 4.1 with New and Improved Features

VRS 4.2 Professional improves on a number of image and productivity enhancement features introduced with VRS 4.1 and adds new features like Desktop Productivity. Working in sync with all certified BBH scanners, VRS4.2 Professional reduces document prep time and produces consistently clear and accurate digital images.

VRS 4.2 Professional includes an improved version of Advanced Clarity. Introduced in VRS 4.1, this feature creates readable digital images out of hard-to-scan documents like blueprints, schematics, checks, crumpled documents and any paper documents with dense or textured backgrounds. Clear images mean faster, more accurate processing, and better intelligent character recognition (ICR) and optical character recognition (OCR) rates.

An improved Auto Orientation feature allows users to forego the time-consuming process of manually turning pages to the correct orientation before scanning.

The new Desktop Productivity feature enables users to scan, correct, save and distribute documents directly from their email program instead of havingto switch to a separate scanning application. Using the Fast Scan feature, VRS 4.2 Professional users can scan, enhance images, name files and attach the scanned image to an email for quick and easy distribution.

VRS 4.2 also supports Windows Vista and includes improved TWAIN compatibility and an expanded list of supported image storage and compression file formats.

Free Upgrades for BBH Customers

All certified BBH scanners will ship with VRS 4.2 starting later this year.  Current owners of BBH scanners equipped with VRS 4.1 Professional and Basic can get a free upgrade to the corresponding versions of VRS 4.2 at www.bbhscanners.com/support.

All other users with VRS 4.0 or lower also can find ways to upgrade to VRS 4.2 at www.bbhscanners.com/support. Paid upgrades to VRS 4.2 Professional are available directly from Kofax resellers.
