Eastman Kodak Company has announced the launch of the new KODAK i1400 Series Scanners which include three productive high-end office desktop devices with advanced functionality and ease of use, designed for small and medium-sized businesses.

The range includes a simplex (i1410) and two duplex (i1420 and i1440) scanners, with USB 2.0 interface and document volumes of up to 10,000 pages per day.

Hauke Fast, EAMER product marketing manager, Document Imaging, Graphic Communications Group, said, “From customer input and surveys, we’ve learned that nearly 75 percent of end-users rank improving efficiency and productivity at the top of their lists of expectations from capture technologies. SMBs are especially keen that document scanning provides these benefits. The KODAK i1400 Series Scanners meet the challenges that SMBs face by offering exceptional speed, new image processing capabilities, and ease of use.”

The i1400 Series feature Kodak’s SurePath paper handling with 3D ultrasonic multi-feed detection to provide reliable paper feeding for a wide range of mixed documents: from onion skin thin paper to card stock, from business cards to A3, as well as up to 86cm in length.

The image quality of up to 600 dpi optical resolution and speeds up to 75 pages per minute in black & white, greyscale, colour and dual stream is outstanding.

All scanners feature Kodak’s Perfect Page image processing technologies including automatic colour detection, de-skew, blank-page detection and iThresholding.

New innovative features have been added as well:

  • Background colour smoothing to improve colour image quality and reduce file size;
  • Automatic orientation reduces document preparation time by rotating the scanned image to ensure correct orientation at all times;
  • The premium model i1440 offers special capabilities, including:
  • Automatic photo extraction which allows the scanner to capture text and photos as separate files in a single scan
  • Simultaneous dropout of up to three trainable colours to improve OCR read-rates.

The duplex models are also the first in their classes to include a document imprinter as standard to print tracking information directly onto documents as they pass through the scanner.

Another first in the low-volume production market is that Kodak is offering innovative A3 and A4 sized tethered flatbed accessories for all the i1400 scanners. These affordable options allow convenient scanning of books, bound documents or fragile items. With the tethered design, users gain the flexibility to position the flatbed in a location away from the base unit, an ideal solution where desktop space is limited.

The scanners come with Kodak Smart Touch for every day scanning jobs such as scan-to email, file, printer or other desktop applications. They are also bundled with KODAK Capture Software Lite - a basic capture client. The optional full version of KODAK Capture Software offers production features including OCR and Barcode recognition, more than 40 different output formats, digital signature capabilities and other useful features.

The new scanners are backed by KODAK Service & Support, the benchmark service provider for the document imaging industry, named Best Support Organisation in the 2006 International Business Awards. Kodak’s all-inclusive Performance Plus Service & Support Contract, available for a wide range of Kodak scanners, is also available for the new i1400 series. The package offers priority response, covers all service and consumable costs for three years, including an immediate supply of a brand new scanner free-of-charge in the event that a technical problem cannot be solved on-site, and an additional year of standard service coverage at no charge if there is no service call within the first three years.

List price for the scanners start at €4,500, with product available today through Kodak’s channel partners serving business-to-business customers.
