Ingram Micro EMEA acquires Intertrade
September 16, 2008

Ingram Micro EMEA, the European, Middle Eastern & African operating division of Ingram Micro Inc. has signed an agreement to purchase all the shares of Intertrade A.F. AG, a leading distributor offering value-added distribution of automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) technologies to solution providers and system integrators. The agreement is expected to close before the end of the year and is subject to customary closing conditions. The terms of the transaction are not being disclosed.

Intertrade A.F. has operations in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Israel and a solid customer base in Eastern Europe. Intertrade A.F. will be integrated in the Ingram Micro Data Capture/POS division, a business focused on delivering value-added services and products. After the closing of the transaction the newly integrated unit will be led by the previous management, Mr. Axel Friedrich, who will report into Johan Vandenbussche, Vice President Ingram Micro EMEA

This acquisition strengthens Ingram Micro’s position in the DC/POS market in Central and Eastern Europe. It follows on Ingram Micro EMEA’s purchase earlier in the year of Paradigm, the leading AIDC/POS distributor in the UK and Ireland, and the purchase of Eurequat earlier this month, a market leader in France, Spain and Portugal.

“We are excited to include the Intertrade organization as part of our DC/POS business" said Jay Forbes, President Ingram Micro EMEA. “Axel and his team have built a strong market presence throughout Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Israel that will be highly complementary to the market positions we currently enjoy, establishing Ingram Micro as a leader in the data capture/point of sale business throughout Europe.”

Commenting on the agreement, Axel Friedrich, chairman of the board of Intertrade A.F. AG stated: “We’re very happy to join Ingram Micro, a global leader in distribution. This development is positive for our company, as well for our vendor partners and customers. We look forward to developing our business together in the DC/POS market.”

The transaction reinforces Ingram Micro EMEA’s position in a market that is poised for growth and adoption by businesses and consumers – a viewpoint shared by key vendors such as Zebra and Motorola. “We believe Ingram Micro’s acquisition of Intertrade will strengthen our relationship and should respond to our reseller’s demands for good availability of Zebra products in their countries. Ingram’s global logistical capabilities combined with Intertrade’s knowledge should help our resellers to become even more successful,” said Rod Rodericks, VP EMEA Zebra Technologies.

“Enterprise Mobility is a hot topic for companies across the region and analyst reports show this trend is set to continue. As a channel-centric business, we appreciate the key role that distributors make in helping channel resellers and end-user customers realize their mobility goals. I'm always pleased to see our distributors innovating in order to support those partners even better.” said Richard Hudson MSSI Vice President Motorola.
