TechTurn launches comprehensive IT asset recovery service for value added resellers
29 August 2007

TechTurn, a leader in technology recovery, refurbishing and resale, has announced its large scale, private label IT asset recovery service for value added resellers (VARs).  VARs can now offer an economically advantageous method for recovering their customers’ outdated electronics, while also providing residual monies back for new technology deployments.

To begin, a VAR will submit an application online to determine the company’s size and ongoing requirements.  After the approval process, the VAR is able to offer the service immediately and will have access to TechTurn’s residual value calculator, enabling the VAR to provide its customer a value for the assets before the transaction is completed.  TechTurn then picks up the IT assets from the end customer, processes the items in one of its facilities, provides legal documentation of the change of ownership and finally sends the VAR a check for the pre-determined value of the assets.  The entire process is seamless for the end customer and requires little involvement from the VAR.

“With the increased understanding of today’s businesses around end-of-life asset management, VARs are in need of an economically effective method for offering their customers a feasible solution,” said John Davies, analyst and vice president of green technology at AMR Research.  “The solution must offer a solid data destruction capability, while not taxing the limited logistical resources available to most VARs.”

Benefits of Service:

·         Increase customer stickiness by solving an additional problem for customers

·         Recover additional monies for customers to spend on new technology deployments

·         Requires little involvement on VARs

·         Provides a new revenue generation opportunity

·         Service comes with sales and marketing support

·         Death certificates and environmental certificates provided for both VAR and end customer

“The VAR industry has needed an IT asset management service for some time now, especially with increasing concerns over environmental issues and growing competition from larger vendors,” said CEO Jeff Zeigler. “The problem has largely been one of logistics – VARs simply do not have the facilities and manpower necessary to offer a profitable take back service.  Through us, they do now.”

Through its state-of-the-art facilities, TechTurn processes more than one million electronic devices yearly and performs thorough data destruction on all hard drives that helps companies meets the stringent standards enforced by the Department of Defense and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accounting Act standard). Once the hard drives are wiped, TechTurn issues certificates of data destruction to confirm that strict security measures have been followed. These products are rigorously tested and nearly 80 percent are reused or resold with no trash or waste. All non-usable components are properly disposed of using recycling processes that meet or exceed environmental standards and adhere to TechTurn’s strict no-landfill policy.
