QLogic unveils 8Gb Fibre Channel products
24 August 2007

QLogic Corp., a leader in networking for storage and high performance computing, has begun testing its complete portfolio of 8Gb Fibre Channel switches and host bus adapters (HBAs) and is readying samples for major OEMs to qualify.

QLogic 8Gb Fibre Channel end-to-end solutions, consisting of switches and HBAs, are designed to fulfil the ever-increasing need of enterprise-class business applications, and select vertical applications, for maximum performance. 8Gb Fibre Channel is claimed to double the performance of today’s 4Gb Fibre Channel products while maintaining full backward compatibility with the large installed base of 4Gb and 2Gb Fibre Channel solutions.

“Administrators of infrastructure applications like disk-to-disk replication and vertical business applications like video post production are already asking for higher performance storage networks to reduce the time it takes to move their data sets,” said Brian Garrett, industry analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. “The backwards compatibility of 8Gb Fibre Channel with their existing 2Gb or 4Gb Fibre Channel networks will be warmly embraced in the data center, video production houses, and other application environments where performance counts.”

“Early adopters of storage networking technologies look to QLogic for the most compelling end-to-end solutions in the market,” said Jeff Benck, president and chief operating officer, QLogic Corp. “Our goal is to satisfy that demand for 8Gb Fibre Channel with a complete set of solutions spanning HBAs, stackable edge switch products, enterprise class directors, blade switch products and routers that are easy to acquire and easy to deploy.”

QLogic 8Gb Storage Networking Portfolio

The new 8Gb Fibre Channel portfolio of products includes a broad range of single and dual port HBAs, blade server HBAs and switches, edge switches, and director switches. All available from a single vendor, QLogic 8Gb Fibre Channel products are designed to allow OEMs, resellers and Global 2000 companies to receive high performance SAN solutions that give them a competitive edge.
