Symbol technologies and Wincor Nixdorf to strenghten PartnerSelect Relationship by delivering self-scanning and personal shopping solutions for Retail Shoppers
18 September 2006

Wincor Nixdorf and Symbol Technologies launch end-to-end solutions for retailers

Wincor Nixdorf, the leading European  provider of IT solutions and services for the Retail and Banking industries, and Symbol Technologies, Inc., The Enterprise Mobility Company™, will build on their existing channel partnership by focusing jointly on the market for self-scanning and personal shopping in retail stores.  Additionally, Wincor Nixdorf will be launching the “TPiSHOP” framework at the Equipmag event in France. TPiSHOP, based on TP.net Store solution technologies, is a complete shopping solution aimed at driving self-service shopping, including mobile self-scanning and personal shopping assistant options. Symbol’s Portable Shopping System (PSS), consisting of rugged mobile computers, wireless infrastructure components, application software, and device dispenser/checkout stations, is an integral part of the TPiSHOP solution.

In addition to self-scanning options for shoppers to help speed up the checkout and payment process, Wincor Nixdorf and Symbol can also offer retailers a handheld “personal shopping assistant” for customers, which can carry information on promotions and a store map to help find the best bargains in the shop. The TPiSHOP scheme also offers mobile sales assistant tools and mobile point of sale (POS) tools.

"With TPiSHOP, Wincor Nixdorf is able to offer an integrated solution for mobile self-scanning and personal shopping.  In combination with its other store automation products, Wincor Nixdorf thus covers all requirements of a highly efficient and consumer friendly self-service environment for stores. Symbol mobility products form an essential element in this offer to our customers," says Bruno Missoni, Mobile Solution Manager at Wincor Nixdorf.

"This collaboration with Wincor Nixdorf has come about from listening to the needs of our retail customers who are increasingly focused on the customer experience,” says Alex Price, Retail Sector Director for Symbol EMEA.  “With queues getting longer and competition getting stronger, self-service is an increasingly important part of the retail shopping experience.  Retailers risk losing business to competitors if they are unable to provide customers with a tailored buying experience," says Price.

This announcement comes as part of the ongoing channel relationship between Wincor Nixdorf and Symbol Technologies and a joint commitment to offer retailers the most comprehensive solution for their needs. "The collaboration with Symbol in the market for mobile self-scanning and personal shopping is of utmost importance for delivering state of the art mobile solutions to our customers for consumer self-service. This collaboration marks a further step in our joint activities in the market for enterprise mobility," says Kai Jungclaus, Head of POS-Peripherals Marketing at Wincor Nixdorf.
