Zetes renews over 6900 ‘quick check’ scanners for Waitrose
February 23, 2010

Zetes, the pan-European provider of solutions and services for the automatic identification of goods and people, has been awarded a contract with Waitrose to supply and support 6940 hand held devices available for shoppers who use the supermarket’s Quick Check self-scanning service.

Waitrose are upgrading their estate of mobile devices used for Quick Check self-scanning to the Motorola MC17’s and Zetes were selected to supply, pre-configure and store the handsets prior to installation. The roll out is now well underway and due to be completed in early 2010 across all stores.

Zetes is one of Northern Europe’s largest providers of mobile solutions based on Motorola devices and also operates an authorized Motorola Repair Centre.  The company maintains an ongoing relationship with Waitrose as a supply chain technology provider.

In 2008, Zetes provided Waitrose with a price markdown solution based on 1000 Zebra printers, in what was the UK retail industry’s biggest single deployment of mobile printing devices.  Waitrose confirmed a key factor in the decision to appoint Zetes to renew its estate of Quick Check devices, was the fact that Zetes offered the unique capability to both source and support the devices as a single supplier.

Mark Turner, commercial manager at Waitrose says, “Once again Zetes proved to be a reliable commercial partner for Waitrose.  They have an excellent track record in the supply of mobile solutions and were also the only provider able to offer environmentally friendly disposal of our legacy equipment and such extensive support services.”

Andrew Southgate, Sales Director for Northern Europe at Zetes says, “Waitrose has consistently demonstrated innovativeness in its use of mobile devices within stores to improve the customer experience and we are delighted to be working with them once again.”
