Barcodes keep track of bicycles at Center Parcs
17 November 2006

Barcoding.co.uk is helping Center Parcs track over ten thousand bicycles at its four UK Villages.

Especially produced laser etched barcode labels supplied by Barcoding.co.uk provide a unique ID for each bicycle as part of an automated system to manage bicycle hire and maintenance.

Bicycles are scanned in and out at Center Parcs cycle centres using handheld laser scanners with keypads that allow entry of status information such as hired, returned, stolen and for repair.  Barcodes scanned on visitor order receipts at the time of hire allow bicycles to be matched to provide an electronic track for each bicycle.

The four Center Parcs Villages at Sherwood Forest, Elveden Forest, Longleat Forest and Whinfell Forest each manage up to three thousand bicycles which are renewed approximately every three years.  Barcoding.co.uk currently supplies the labels for all new orders.  Each bicycle has two labels to allow ease of scanning and a back up in case one label becomes damaged.  The self-adhesive and laser etched labels are extra durable in order to handle the high frequency of use and rugged outdoor environment.

"Bicycles are very much part of the Center Parcs experience and managing the hiring of thousands of bicycles is a real challenge" says Ricky Birchmore, Cycle Centre Manager at Center Parcs.  "Barcoding has proved to be an essential aid, especially during often frantic change over days when speed and efficiency are crucial. Barcoding.co.uk has been a key supplier behind the success to the system."

Barcoding.co.uk has been established within the automatic identification sector for fifteen years as an industry leader in barcode and wireless technology.  Specialising is the provision of end-to-end solutions, Barcoding.co.uk supplies to an extensive blue chip client base including Nissan, Avery Dennison, Corus, Procter & Gamble, St. Gobain and Grattans.
